I had a simlar problem on a 386 system I had once.  It appeared to have a
bad solder joint on one of the connectors for the keyboard jack.  My theory
is that the weight of the keyboard cable was enough to disconnect the
keyboard every now and then because just wiggling the cable would fix it.
I had someone re-solder the connector and it worked fine after that.
