There are IP numbers that are set aside for use in your local network.
They are "192.168.0.x " where "x" is "1,2,..." for each workstation.
For example your PC would be set to 192.168.0.1 and your Mac would be
set to 192.168.0.2. I think that the masks should be set to
"255.255.255.0". Hope this helps.
