This problem refer to hardware, it can be any of the following: CPU, RAM or
mobo.
Try use matched type/speed memory, set RAM speed to slowest in BIOS, "avoid"
using single side 128M memory stick, some mobo don't like them.
Check CPU and all CPU related setting, eg disable L2 catch during setup. As
others pointed out, you must have proper cooling (not only for CPU, but for
everything inside the box).
Check the case, make sure there is nothing short the mobo and mobo is
properly grounded. It is not unusual that bad made/damaged cases can disable
a good mobo. It is also hard to identify this kind of problem since you
normally can't see the back of mobo (once it is in case).
After all, can you install win98 or NT on this machine? Does this problem
only appear on win2k setup?

Does anybody have any clue what could be happening?
