Hi, just to add to this reply, one of my monitors at home has to be run in
256 colours. Any more than that, and I get the lines and squiggles across
the screen instead of a picture. (It's definately the monitor at fault, and
not the system, the monitor is from an old win95 system.)
I usually try to go as high as I can regarding the colour, but if it doesn't
work, you get a few seconds in which to decide whether to keep it or not.
Even if you can't read the display, it automatically goes back after about
15 seconds.
With my older monitors, if I do experience a problem, I also tend to select
Standard VGA and often either standard monitor type or plug and play
monitor.
It usually works, sometimes after a bit of fiddling.
