there are PCMCIA to USB adapters.

That is if you have pcmcia slots in your laptop.
I don't know this vendor and it seems to be a mac site mainly.
I just did a quick search so you could see a picture of one.
you can also check ebay for "pcmcia to usb adapter".
A much faster solution and maybe cheaper, is to network the two computers
via ethernet. You will need a ethernet adapter (card) for the desktop and a
pcmcia network adapter card (NIC)
for the laptop, and a Cat 5 crossover cable to hook the two together.
If you get two 10/100 Base-T  speed nics you can transfer data very rapidly.
It is also possible to connect via serial or parallel ports, but that is
painfully slow.
