Your relative must have bought this computer from someone who put a password on the BIOS.  Very few personal computer owners set passwords for the BIOS.  I think if you open the computer and removed the battery for a minute it will kill the password and reset everything to default. You should be able to enter the BIOS setup after that.  Don't forget to replace the battery (you might want to replace it with a new one since the computer is at least 6 years old.
