Will someone please explain the difference between ecc ram and non ecc
ram?

Jim,

Ecc ram is error-correcting ram -- also known as parity. You can distinguish
them on a simm by the extra memory module. Whereas a non-parity chip will have
8 modules, the parity chip will have 9. Hope that helps.
