You have a duplicate device definition set up for the d: / e: hard disk,
probably  under control panel, system, device manager, hard disk
controllers.  You may or may not have trouble deleting one.  Sometimes the
hardware wizard insists on re-adding the 'shadow' of the real hard drive
every time you boot.  If that happens, first try deleting the other
definition.  If you get really frustrated, you may be able to select
'disable in this hardware profile' for one of them and the e: will
disappear. A lot depends on your version of windows.

I added a second hard drive as a slave a few days ago. Now
explorer shows three hard drives. The C drive is ok and has all my
original files. The "D" drive and "E" drive are identical in size and
content. How do I get rid of the "E" drive?

To complicate things, I also have a CD drive showing up as "F" and
a CD-R drive showing up as "G".
