I don't know the construction of your drive frame, but I made some
aluminum plates with mounting holes in them. It looks something like
this:

The 'o's indicate holes or a slot for attaching the drive to. The
spacing between rows is the distance I want to have between the drives.
I then attach the upper holes to an existing drive on the outside. The
new drive then hangs for the top one. I add extra space between drives
for cooling. It also helps if you can put an offset bend in the plates
so that the top part is a bit wider apart to allow for the thickness of
the existing mounting bracket.

They are not too hard to make if you have any hardware skills at all.
Someone should market such devices, but I have not seen any. Should I go
into the business? Is there a market?

I just bought my son a Compaq Presario model 4410 that is populated with
a DVD-Rom, a CD-RW and a 40 GB hard drive and a floppy drive. The two
ROMS take up the 5-1/4 inch spaces and the floppy and HD occupy the
3-1/2 inch spaces. Even though there is another IDE connector available,
there is no box to mount another hard drive. There is no fan on the
front of the unit, so there is a lot of free space to "hang" another box
if there is such a thing. So I guess my question is: is there a way to
put another drive in this box?
