We're currently running on an Institute-wide Banyan Vines network.
What we would like to do is support a completely separate physical
network, using MS Network on a department level(approx. 10 pcs), but
still retain continued access to Banyan. The office cabling
(RJj45) & patch panels are in place to support another physical
connection.

Questions:

1. Can I add another nic card to each of these pcs, and define the
protocol to support pc file sharing, etc. among these pcs?
Then, choose which network to logon to.

2. I assume these networks would be mutually exclusive; other options
I need/could consider??

Is this approach realistic/practical? The rationale for the separate
network relates to ongoing network problems in the current
environment. We're migrating to NT (hopefully more stable), but it
won't happen for another 6-9 mos. This seems to be a low cost interim
solution. I have an inventory of 3Comm nic cards..

Thanks for your help.
