Working within a business budget, a friend of mine wants to upgrade his DV
editing machine. He needs to spend the rest of his budget this year or its
gone (along with some allocation of funds for next year). He is currently
using something on the order of a PII-400 and getting barely adequate
results. We have about $250 - $300 US to play with. We'll continue to use
Win98, so no multi-processor setups are possible. We are needing a
motherboard, CPU and memory. Any suggestions on what would be a good
choice?

I know that the ideal machine would be a P4, but that seems outside the
budget. I know that CPUs with a better FPU will perform better for this
task. But comparing what the same money will buy (roughly guessing an
Athlon 1.3, PIII 1.0, maybe a Duron 1.2 w/ extra memory) is beyond my
knowledge.

Any help would be appreciated!
