Dear Gary:

Make sure you get the BIOS update from the mfg.s website for your motherboard
version. Slight differences in the revision for a particular board can be
the difference between a good update and reprogramming the EEPROM to revive a
dead motherboard. The flash program should have instructions in a text file
and some major vendors like Compaq and others have utilities that make things
even easier.

You must verify you have the proper update by finding the BIOS string at the
startup screen and matching it on a BIOS string ID site.

If your mfg. does not have an easy flash utility (PC Chips motherboards,
etc.) you need a bootdisk formatted with the /S switch, the flash program and
BIOS update installed. Then you run the flash program booted from a shut
down computer with the floppy drive being first in the BIOS boot sequence.
Next follow the instructions as you described.

Good luck with BIOS flashing. There is a lot of info on the net.

Regards,
Mike Scott
