John:
You can boot your machine from the original three disks that came with NT,
then use your Emergency Repair Disk (ERD)(assuming you made one) to bring
your system back up. If you don't have an ERD, you will have to reformat the
drive and re-install NT. Unfortunately, you will lose all your data! But
you can restore that from your backup. Right?

* Only after installing did I notice a caveat that Service Pack 3 for NT
should be installed first. Rebooted. The
* mouse went all over the screen. Had to shut down. Upon restarting, now
repeatedly received the message:
* NTLDR fatal error #1: cannot read boot.ini.
* Have tried to repair my NT installation, reinstall NT, switch around my
two hard drives
* from slave to master after changing the jumper, to no avail. Any
* installation seems to proceed fine, but goes nowhere.
* I have no clue what to do now. Any and all ideas would be greatly
appreciated.
