Upgraded Video Card = Screensaver Not Functioning

I upgraded from a Geforce FX 5200 card to a Radeon 9600XT.  I uninistalled all of the nvidia drivers before the upgrade.

However, now that I have done this, the screen saver always goes to black screen.  When I move the mouse our other input device, one or two frames of the screen saver is visible and the desktop then appears.  Any hints or help?  What other info do you need?
