Cele 333/ 192mb ram/ ata hdd. Yes that is enough to adequately let you make
copies and burn cd's without problems.

Especially if you get the ones with overburn protection.
The only "problem" you might experience is being able to do mulitple
functions while burning.
Scheduling and patients solves those problems.
I don't see any advantage to the fastest burners at this time (24x10x)
The media is too expensive and often hard to find.

I personally have a TEAC 516eb (16x10x40) and Sony 8x4x32.
The Sony was half the cost, and the difference is 4 minutes in burning a
650mb cd. Both are IDE and both come with software.

The most popular ones now are LiteON, Sony, Plextor, Yamaha, TEAC, HP,
Ricoh, .....get the message. They are all mostly good but stay with know
burners to insure software compatibility.

A good place to learn about burners is www.cdr-guide.com.
Good reviews on software as well.

The newer Firewire (IE1394) requires a PCI card but is allows external
cdrw's to be as fast as internal IDE's.
Sony has good external burners. This is good if you anticipate swapping to
various machines. USB models are readily available also for about $100.

The uncontested best burners (and most expensive) is Plextor.
The difference in cost (to me) compared to performance does not justify
buying a Plextor.

TEAC has the fastest read times and is equal to error at those high speeds
compared to the rest.

Many come with software, which you definitly should get.

Where will you be in 100 years? If you don't know, I can tell you. (and its
not the grave). Write me.
