Hi,

this strongly suggests that the "contact" of the adapter pin at the laptop slot somehow loosens itself. since there is no power supply the laptop switches to battery mode. ( this scenario is somewhat difficult to believe since you also say " I always keep the AC adapter on my laptop plugged in." but heat cycling sometimes causes this.)  OR
 
the adapter itself has gone bad.


so..... try a different adapter. BTW it is helpful if you give a "subject" whenever you post
