If you still have the box that the card came in, look on the front to see if
it says: "powered by ATI" or "built by ATI". There is a difference. Some
budget manufacturers use an ATI chip on their own boards, and if this is the case,
the updated drivers from ATI's website will cause a problem as they are not
compatible. You have an excellent mobo and CPU, so I doubt that is the problem.
Is the problem occurring all the time, or just during game playing? I have a
Radeon 7500 board that is "powered by ATI" and I can only use the drivers
provided on the disc, even though there are updated drivers available that support
DirectX 9.0. Check the website of the company that makes the games to see if
they have a patch for the games using your card. Make sure that the monitor
resolution and refresh rate set by the card are supported by the monitor. Have
you tried to uninstall the drivers, remove the board then reinstall board and
drivers? Have you checked to see if the VGA connector is tightly seated in the
boards slot? Try lower refresh rates or the Windows default setting (usually 60
Hz ). Is the cooling fan on the board running? Have you tried to start
Windows with a minimum number of startup programs running and then start the game to
see if its a memory issue?
I can't think of any other options right now, but keep posting. Someone might
have an obvious answer!
