I'm wondering if the boot disk is ok, so I would eliminate that possibility
by downloading another from www.bootdisk.com
My mother had a similar problem recently, and it turned out she had been
using a boot disk made on another computer which has a 'named' drive. I'm
assuming this was what was causing the problem, as when she downloaded
another, it was plain sailing.
That seems one of the more obvious things to try to start with to me.
Hope this helps.

Subject: [PCBUILD] formatting and reloading win 98 problem

> Hi,
> I am a new subscriber and I need some help.
> I am working on a pc that had some internal issues, so I formatted it. I
was going to reload 98 and start over. Well now it won't see the CD-Rom
drive.
> I have tried every drive letter and it says invalid drive. I just want it
to read the cd-rom and load win 98. I am using a boot disk, and it says
there is a cd-rom drive but I can't access it.
