The slot should be backward compatible. Haven't seen one that isn't yet. If
it's not, you most likely won't be able to put the board in the slot.

These days, there's only two names in video cards. Nvidia and ATI. My personal
preference is for Nvidia, but to be honest, they both make equally impressive
chipsets. The actual brand name of the board you buy can be argued
incessantly, but I'm partial to Gainward myself. As I don't pay much attention
to the ATI chipset, I cannot remember if they sell their boards directly or if
they just provide the chipset for rebranding. Someone with an ATI board will
have to check me on that.

There are other 3D video chipsets, but unless your putting together a really
really really really cheap workstation, I wouldn't give them the time of day.

The web site? www.tomshardware.com. They go over ALL chipsets and most brands,
giving you much more testing data than you could probably ever use. I trust
their testing, and have never been dissapointed with the results of their
recommandations.

Good Luck!!

>Just bought a computer and need to put a video board in it I have a few AGP
boards but do not know if they are different than the one I need for the ASUS
A7V8X-X motherboard it says AGp 8x APG 3.0 in the book are AGP board backward
compatable. I will buy a good board later but want to try a older AGP board to
start this computer up. Looking for a answer and maybe a good web site to read
up on video.
