When you first plug it into the USB port your PC should say 'found new 
hardware' and it should show up as a Hard drive, sort of like when you 
plug in a card reader.... You shouldn't have any problems just moving or 
copying the files onto a hard drive in your computer.

I've never heard of an enclosure insisting on formatting the drive. The 
whole point is to be able to move files, and/or use the drive for back-up.

What exactly did you try? And what happened?
