Thanks for the suggestion David.  I have tried a completely different zip
drive and cable with the same results.  Any other thoughts????

  I think we've seen some weird problems in the past that were traced
to defective printer cables.  I'd try replacing the cable to the Zip,
and see if that makes a difference.
