I am running Windows XP home edition. I had a my removable hard drive
working under the following configuration. For some reason it isn't any
longer. The primary drive was on the first IDE cable. The second IDE
cable contained a LG cdrw and then one of several drives. The jumper on
the cdrw was set to slave. In the BIOS, both the secondary master and
slave were set to auto detect.

It doesn't matter what I do, different BIOS settings, a different IDE
cable, different jumper settings, system restore, you name it I can NOT get
the stupid drive to get recognized. (The drives were recognized before).

A couple of questions:
1. What would be the starting setup for the above (a primary drive, a cdrw
and various removable drives? Suggestions.

2. In the BIOS is it better to have your primary drive set to User Defined
and cdrw set to CD in order to speed up the boot process? That would seem
logical rather than use auto detect. Comments.

Thanks,
Paul Ecclestone
