Joe: How does this set up, work and what is it's purpose?

It appears like one can take any internal Hard Drive and with this case convert an internal HD to an external HD which in turn can be connected to a USB port.
The purpose being-- is the transfer of Information via the faster USB port to various computers.

Is this correct?--Mike Michel
