Ken,
Make sure that the camera is in the proper mode for downloading.  My Toshiba
is not recognized by the PC even if physically connected and turned on
UNLESS it is set to the file-transfer mode.  Also, the battery must be
charged enough for the process to work.  Try doing the transfer both with
the camera connected to the recharger and with it not connected.

What IRQ are you using, and have you checked the Device Manager to see if
some other device is sharing that IRQ?
