I, too have recently installed Win2k and had this problem.  The mouse worked for a short period then would "hide."  I flashed the BIOS with an updated version and that did the trick.  But, others have told me it could be a software conflict.  It seems Win2k is "touchy" with some older software and you'll only figure that out by trail and error what will work and what won't -- at least that's how I did it.  I had some other issues with Win2k and just had to give up some software.  Hope this helps.
