Thanks Rick, but the site you suggested wants $100 a year to "subscribe."
I'm retired and don't have that kind of money -  especially since there is
no way for me to know that it could actually help me find the right driver
for my HP  SM Bus Controller driver.  I really feel "taken" that HP refuses
to supply the drivers for their hardware (without installing their
crapware).

You guys usually really come through - anyone know how I could find the
RIGHT driver for my HP mother-board-build-in SM Bus Controller?  (Intel
Chipset 82845G)  Imperial motherboard.

Many thanks to Tracy for showing me how to completely solve the Missing in
OEM XP problem with Word 2000 - worked like a charm!

The SMBus controller is the 'System Management Bus controller'.
It's part of the Intel chipset on your motherboard.
(I use AMD so can't explain it too well...)
But, just like the AMD chipsets, it helps to have the latest driver for it.
