Subject: [PCBUILD] Installing new HD on Win2K.

I purchased a new ATA100 HD for a WIN2K server and am having problem
copying old disk to new disk. Win2K server is the only server in the network
and is a domain controller and is using Active Directory. I have tried to
use Norton Ghost 2001 home edition and Enterprise Edition to no avail. All
the files get copied over but computer doesn't boot properly because active
directory does not start. I get an error in program "Isass.exe". It tells
me to go into 'safe mode for directory repair' . When I go there it just
keeps giving me a logon prompt. I type in the admin password and I am
prompted again to logon.

Any ideas???

It appears that you can't ghost or image w2k server to another drive, our
server uses a mirror image drive and being dynamic keeps a instant copy of
itself.
We wanted to upgrade to a 30 gig drive and tried all the programs we could
get including Ghost, Drive Copy and even Partion Magic but to no avail, also
we tried the recomended way from Microsoft and it failed as well.

To increase the size of the drive we spanned it to one of the 30 gig drives
and used to other as a mirror of the spanned drive this gives us a mirror of
the boot drive and the data drive on one disk.
This gave us a copy of the OS as a backup, with the backup we tried to
delete the data area and then stretch the boot drive to the full disk size,
unfortunately w2k server wont let you do this as the active directory has to
stay the original size it started out as (pity this wasn't documented
clearly before we set up the server)

We are still waiting for a release of Ghost or something that is w2k server
compliant.
Ghost 6 states that it can copy Server as long as the drive isn't dynamic...

If someone knows a tried and workable way to copy W2K Server to a larger HDD
I would love to know..
