Robert,
I copied this from a recent newsletter of mine....

Testing for the year 2000 on your computer.

Is the hardware in your computer Y2K compliant, or are you in for
a big surprise on January 1st 2000? The easiest, and one of the
best ways to check for this on your computer, is with a program
from Ontrac, a data recovery company. At their website, you can
download their FREE Ontrack Y2K Advisor Software This new Ontrack
software quickly evaluates your PC's BIOS and Real Time Clock for
Year 2000 compatibility.
The first step in this process, is to visit their website at
http://www.ontrack.com Once there, click on the words "FREE
Ontrack Y2K Advisor Software Now Available!" this will take you to
another page describing what the software does. Scroll down to the
fourth paragraph where you will see the second word "download" is
underlined. Click on the word "download". At this point, you will
be asked to fill in your e-mail address, a password and the
country you are in. Fill in the information, (Don't worry, Ontrack
will not sell, give away, or use your e-mail address for any
purpose other than to send you information which you request while
filling out the form.)
click on "ENTER" and you will now go to the download page.
Locate the fourth file down on the page. It is called "Ontrack
Y2K Advisor (EXE format)". Click on the button to the left that
says "Download" Internet Explorer will now ask you what you want
to do with this file, Click on "Save this program to disk" and
then click "OK"
You will now see the "Save As" Dialog box. First, click the
little box to the right of the words "Save in" and select
"Desktop" Now click on "Save" in the lower, right hand corner.
Internet Explorer will now download the file for you.
When the download is complete, you can close your web browser,
and disconnect from the internet. Now find the file on your
desktop. It will look like a floppy disk and the name is
Y2Kdisk.exe. Double click on the file, click continue, read the
license agreement, click "Yes" to agree to it, put a blank floppy
in your floppy drive, and click the start button. When the disk
has been created, label it according to the directions on the
screen, and click the "Done" button.
Now that you have created your disk, shut down your computer,
make sure the disk is in the drive, and turn the computer back on.
Read the screens, and follow the directions (press "enter" three
times) to run the tests. Ontrack, will run a series of tests, and
the results will appear on the screen as each test is completed.
When it is finished, the program will give you a report with the
results of the tests, and suggestions on how to best handle the
transition to the year 200.
