Assume you update your BIOS and the update causes problems, stuff doesn't work the way it did with the previous BIOS. If you save the older one you can flash the BIOS back to its previous state.  I always save the old ones until I've seen how well the update does for a few weeks.  No problems, and I may delete it, or not.
