Hi,
has this person done a full virus scan with up to date definitions? Also,
I'd try a separate tojan scan too.
I had a problem once which had me stumped too where my mouse was going
completely mad, jumping all over the screen, programs opening up everywhere,
same 'ding' noise quite often, and mine eventually turned out to be a faulty
mouse. (It was pretty new)
There is a possibility that the keyboard may be faulty, or maybe its
possible that the ps2 connection is not fully making contact? Have you tried
unplugging it and reinserting it to rule this out?
Have you tried a different keyboard and/or mouse? (possibly a compatibility
problem?)
Personally, I'd go for the virus and trojan idea first just to rule that
out.
Try http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ .
I'd say try that first, just in case your friends AV program may have
possibly become corrupted. Someone once said to me that quite often, the
first thing a virus/worm seeks to destroy is the antivirus program. Made
sense to me.........(the first thing a burglar would attempt to do is
disable the burglar alarm)
HTH
