I lost the original post, but
I think I know what you're talking about. what you were asking was not a easy task for you. You'll need a reference machine first, then create a image (use MS tool) and a special boot disk, you'll need to edit some system files too. In your case, if you really want to do it, you'll need:
1) setup win98 on the new machine, load all drivers and so on.
2) run pre-install wizard (create boot disk and image)
3) you may need to copy the image to a CD
4) format harddisk, boot from the special boot disk, and "install" from the image CD,
5) when reboot, enter in audit mode (so you can test it without destroy the pre-install)
6) shut down the machine

sorry to say so, but this info is for OEM only, so I can't give you more details.
