About six months ago, I bought a new Gateway LT4010u netbook (small
laptop). It came with 1GB of RAM (on a single SO-DIMM), and I was
looking to replace this with a 2GB part. Crucial's site listed 2GB
SO-DIMMs for "Gateway LT40" (which is what Win7 identifies the machine
as...), and for "Gateway LT4008u", with indistinguishable specifications
but different part numbers.... (The 4010u is a slight update to the
4008u -- other than shipping with a larger hard drive, it's not obvious
what changes Gateway made....)
I posted here for advice, and the most promising suggestion was to
call Crucial and speak to a live person.
The day that I found time to call, Crucial's web site was down, and so
the person I reached was unable to research the issue. When I tried
again about a week later, the site was up, and the LT4010u had been
added to the models listed -- so I ordered the recommended part and it
has arrived, and I plan to install it this week.
(The original two choices were each listed at $16, whereas this one
was $21, but "Crucial guarantees that this is the right part for my
computer" is worth it.)

(Oh... Once I've updated the RAM, I plan to clone the installed hard
drive to an SSD to swap into its place, and use that hard drive to
upgrade my wife's old MacBook....)
