Alfreda,
Since I have seen no replies to your query, I will give you the bad news.
The noise you hear is typical of a high voltage leak and/or arcing inside the monitor.
This can be as minor as breakdown of insulation on a wire or as serious as an arcing
CRT.
At the price of labor today a new monitor is very likely in order. Repair is definitely not for the inexperienced,
as the voltages involved can be extremely hazardous.
Good luck,
Hal Seabolt

Subject: [PCBUILD] Fw: Monitor makes a cracking sound

  Hi!

My monitor makes a cracking sound, like the sound of static electricity, only louder.

Does anyone know what might be causing this and how I might fix it? The image on the screen partly fades out.

  Thanks.

  Alfreda
