There are several steps in this process. I am assuming that the built in
video memory is not enough for the required minimum. You need to check in the BIOS
to see if you can disable the on-board video, or on some older motherboards
check to see if there are jumpers you can set to disable it. If you have a
video card that you are installing for this purpose, disable the  current driver
in the device manager and set your video driver to 'Standard VGA' the default
video driver in Windows. Seat the card firmly in a slot (PCI or AGP) boot up
computer and install the new drivers from disc. I don't know if this is the
direction you are trying to go, but the basic description of your nephew's pc
sounds like this is what you want. You may want to check out the pc manufacturer's
website to see if they have any on-line manuals you can download for
reference concerning your motherboard or BIOS. Hope this helps.
