Guten Tag from Germany! I am working a system, a 486DX40 that I have
upgraded for a friend to a DX4/100. I have verified all of the motherboard
settings, and am trying to get it to work with only the video card, and IDE
controller card before I go installing all of the "bells and whistles".
I've gotten the BIOS (AMI dated 1993) to recognize both hard drives (which
I've upgraded and loaded off my other system with Windows 95, [last release]
and Office 97) and the CPU, but regardless of BIOS settings, the system
locks after it verifies the Cache and the CPU Clock. I've even done up a
spread sheet with all of the card settings so I know I have no conflicts. I
was wondering if I should place a non-static plastic sheet under the
motherboard since there wasn't one there before. My suspicion at this point
is that the board may be grounding at some point to the case since the
spacers are not the ones designed for this board.
Oh yes, and before anyone says why am I doing this because I thought
it was crazy too, I've already suggested to him that he should upgrade to a
better system, but he seems attached to this one for a reason unbeknownst to
me. Please provide any suggestion you may have and thanks in advance!
