Dorthy,
 I also use AOL and have had to re-install a few times due to
different problems.
I believe when uninstalling it will ask if you want to keep certain
files (not sure of the exact wording). Select yes to keep them. It
will place a folder on your desktop containing them. After you
reinstall, connect to the net and it will load your favorites and
other saved data from their system. when you close aol it will then
say it's updating the software. I have slow dial-up and it takes doing
this several times before it is back to it's previous state.
 I don't know if this will cure your problem, but it seems like a
logical step to try.
