I agree with the other guy, HP is a pretty good choice.  If you do not need
color printing, Laser printer will be even a better choice.  The cost per
page is a lot lower than ink jet printers.  Besides, the toner doesn't dry
out in Laser printer.  I used to have Canon BJC-610 I need to change
cartridge, especial the black one, every month.  Now I have a Laser
printer, I think I print more than before, but it has been almost a year,
and I still don't need to change the cartridge yet.  The only problem is, I
can no longer print colors.  By the way, Canon is a very good printer, too.
 But, I have seen more beaten up HP printer and still works well than
Canon.  (most of them are 500 series, not sure about the durance for the
new models)
