Hey Guys,
I'm trying to help a friend with her computor, the problem is when I
=
try to scandisk or defrag the computor times out because it says a =
program(s) is writing to the harddrive. I shut down screensaver, all =
energy saving features, went into msconfig and took out everyting except
=
systray and it still interupts scandisk. My question is how do you check
=
to see what programs are running in the backround...Thanks in advance =
for any help on this subject...Jim

Jim,

The best and easiest way to make certain that there are no programs
running in the background is to Scan Disk and Defrag in "Safe Mode".

Usually you can this accomplished by continuously tapping the F8 key
[depending on the computer you have. Check manual] as you boot up until
it is complete. Then you should be able to complete the tasks without any
problems. After it is complete reboot into "Normal Mode" Has worked for
me for years.

Good luck.

                Lew
