Had this problem recently myself, and then the problem spread to other
software and some my "old reliables" started giving me "illegal operations"
and other messages. Finally traced problem to a failing cpu fan. Pulled
the case off and sure enough the fan was idle. The fan was one of the
"good" ones and only about 3 months old. May not be your problem but
definitely worth checking into

Good Luck
