Hi,

This is a config issue that I can't figure out, and I'd be grateful for any suggestions. (I'm not
quite far enough into the semester to completely understand what to try next - just far enough to
be dangerous :)

Running Win ME, IE 5.5, on a HP 8860 with a Realtek RTL8139(A)-based NIC.

The problem:
The issue is with power management and my cable connection. Regardless of how I shutdown, (standby,
hibernate) whenever I start up again, my DNS/DHCP server numbers are gone in winipcfg. "Renew all"
does nothing (pinging my isp fails). I have to restart to get everything back - after which, all is
fine, but it kind of defeats the purpose of standby and hibernate.

What I've tried thus far:
- I have disabled the Lucent modem.
- I removed all protocols and added them back one at a time - a mistake as the NIC refused to work
at all. I had to remove the NIC
from device manager and let PnP detect it again to get it working.

Two things that are different from the old settings:
- In winipcfg, "IP Routing Enabled" is no longer selected.
- Also in winipcfg, "NDIS 5.0 driver" is my only option - it used to read "Realtek ...something?"
(Pretty sure about this).

Any ideas what I'm missing, or has anyone run into this before?

Thanks in advance...

Alan Thompson
