  I almost missed seeing the question here.

  While I try to avoid leaving it sitting on any gloppy disks, I
routinely use a magnetic screwdriver for PC work, and have never had
it cause any problem.  [A non-conducting *plastic* screwdriver is
generally recommended for working inside monitors, but that is a
different issue.]
