I attempted to install an Astra 2000U USB scanner into a new Gatewaysystem
and it will not operate. When I first cold start the computer, the
scanner lights up and goes through its warm-up. Then I run the scannertest
and it senses
the scanner and displays the scanner and driver information but whenI click
on test
scan it begins moving the light bar a small amount (less than an inch)and
then stops and gives an error code of 00000000h

When I had this problem it was with a Dell XPS Dimension machine and the solution -- not hinted at by Dell, Astra nor Microsoft -- was that I had to enable USB support in setup. I'm sure this was the solution in W95 but don't know if an oem installation of W98 would require you to do it. It's an easy thing to check, tho. bob raikes
