I would like to set up some sort of home network, with a desktop, a laptop, a scanner, a printer, and eventually other peripherals as needed. The desktop will be on a different floor of our home from everything else.

I'd like suggestions for how to set it up, what we need to purchase, should we use cables fished through the wall, existing house wiring, or should we go wireless? What are the costs?

I'm using windows XP on the desktop, we don't have a laptop, yet.

Thanks,
Karen Smith
