Michael here's what I meant.

Different manufacturers label the banks/slots differently. For clarification purposes
let's say that they're labeled as follows; SIMM 1 and SIMM 2 make up Bank 0, and SIMM 3
and SIMM 4 make up Bank 1. The CPU will access Bank 0 first right, so I would put the
new RAM on Bank 0 and move the one that was there to Bank 1.

How you remove/install the SIMMs because of the way they're positioned is not important,
just inconvenient at times. Where you put the best RAM is important. I don't recommend
this but if you had two 4MB SIMMs of 70ns and two 16MB SIMMs of 60ns, you would get the
best performance by installing the 60ns SIMMs on Bank 0, and the 70ns SIIMs on Bank 1.

This is in a Pentium system, if I remember correctly on 486s SIMM 1 and SIMM 3 made up
Bank 0. I'm sure I'll be corrected if this is not so. The logic behind placing the SIMMs
in the bank that's accessed first by the CPU holds true even if my description of the
Banks is not quite on the money.

Hope I didn't confuse it more.

Regards,

Jose
