Just received an HP Vectra 233 mhz running windows 2000 to replace an
IBM 150 mhz machine. The IT guy in Colordo prepared the machine &
shipped it to us (AZ) He says that the card was installed when it left
& it was working fine. The machines are used like terminals through a
VPN to a reservation system, so the Ethernet card is essential. It
connects eventually to a wireless modem supplied by the wireless cable
company. The modem feeds an SMC barrier router. When I powered up the
machine, the OS tried to install the Ethernet controller (SMC1255) and I
pointed it to the inf file that the IT guy said he installed it with.
It read the file (posted the location) and then went right away to look
in the winnt/inf area where it didn't find anything. Thinking that the
card was no good, I installed the D-link card from the other machine and
pointed it to the disc where the inf files are. It read the files, even
posted the Dlink icon for a while and then did the same thing by going
to the winnt/inf area and couldn't find a driver. I then took the Dlink
card, put it into the other machine (IBM) and reconnected it. It
worked just as before. I'm not really a network guy, but from what I
could see the cards are detected, but the drivers won't load. Does
anyone have any ideas as to what I could try? Thanks George
