I just rebuilt a gaming computer around an Athlon 64 3000+ and Asus K8V
SE Deluxe motherboard.  I picked the 3000+ because it saved me money
over the 3200+ and it ran right up there with it in benchmarks.

The only difference between the two is a little bit of rated speed and
the size of the cache.  The 2800+ and 3000+ have 512k cache, the 3200+
and up have 1MB cache.

For the most part, with 32 bit OS's apps, and games, the extra cache
doesn't really provide that much extra speed to justify the extra cost.
When 64 bit OS's and apps become more mainstream, I believe the extra
cache will be beneficial.  But since we are still looking at least a
year or more before we see the 64 bit OS from Bill, I chose to save some
money now.

If you are going to buy now and go with Socket 754, I would just get
whatever mobo is the cheapest and has the features you are looking for.
Socket 939 is on the horizon, but is probably going to be pretty
expensive when it hits the market.

First, if you had your druthers, which would you pick?  Which is going
to work best now and in the future?  Building own pc for gaming and
office aps, no vid editing.  Spending around $800 for the whole schpiel.

Next, I would be open to suggestions on a good mobo to pair with either
of these chips.  Right now, I am leaning towards a Gigabyte boards with
the Nvidia chipsets.
