Conventional wisdom is that you NEVER hot-plug SCSI stuff. I like to extend
that to just about anything connected to a box. The only thing I ever
hot-plug is a parallel cable and occasionally an ethernet connection.

Also, if you have an external SCSI device, be sure to remember to turn it
off before unplugging as well.
