Sounds like you may be experiencing an issue addressed by this Microsoft
KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060. This link contains a
way to fix this issue on Windows Vista. Get back with the group if this
fix does not work, and we'll see what else we can think up. :)

Subject: [PCBUILD] DVD rom disappeared

Hi there,

I have 2 desktops, which are different hardware configuration, are
running Vista 64bit. They both have the same problem that the DVD-rom
disappeared suddenly. Before, I installed Window with those DVD Drives
on both, they were working fine for a while after Window installed. Now,
they do not show up in File Explorer as well as in Computer Management
under Disk Management. I removed the DVD rom drive and tried in the
other computer, it works fine. Checking cable connection is connected
properly. That means the DVD drive is no problem.
So, something wrong with Vista or what? Please help!
