I recently installed the SCSI board which came with the Artec AM
12S Scanner into a PCI slot of my ASUS SP97-V motherboard running W 98.
I assume the SCSI board to be SCSI 2, but documentation in paper form
was nonexistent. Scanner worked, IXLA software was trash - system
crashed twice. The following day, I tried to print with my HP Laser Jet
4 (LPT 1). Error code "50 Service" showed up. HP web site noted that the
code was a temporary electrical malfunction, try again after 30 minutes.
I even unplugged the printer and tried a new outlet on a different
circuit. No luck. The only other action taken was to install Lap Link
and activate LPT2 and Com 2 for future use with Lap Link ( I have a
second parallel port.) I did not make any connections using Lap Link.
My wife said same thing happened to her scanner at the office, and
she needed a switch (A-B?) I perhaps could understand this if she had a
"pass through" parallel port.
Is there a connection between the SCSI and LPT 1 which I am not
aware, or between LPT 1 and LPT 2? What could I have done wrong, and how
do I avoid a repetition when I get my printer back from the shop? I did
not change any cables, etc. with the machine running. Thank you.
