Hello All, First a Big Thanx to all who replied to initial post. I
added 256k to RAM and the computer worked as rapidly as a 8oo mhz
processor could. However; that was with a dsl connection. While I was
connected to dsl I downloaded 37 updates to Windows, one of which was
Service Pack 2. Then it froze. Had to go into Safe Mode to uninstall
SP2, and it returned to normal. I then switched to dial-up because that
is what the owner of computer has, and I could get it to log on, but not
surf the web. Tried to use different ports, two different modems(or is
that modi) uninstall and re-install software even bought new modem to no
avail. Sometimes it says no dial tone, sometimes Netzero had to
disconnect and sometimes modem not installed properly. Called Netzero
for support, but no help($1.95/minute is their charge for their
customers and one wonders why they are so cheap for monthly fee, luckily
only stayed on for 13 minutes). Also at start-up, a Found New Hardware
message pops up about an Intel AIM Flat Panel Driver? I am assuming that
is some type of monitor, but not the one attached to this computer I
have checked all the settings 5 or 6 times for the modem. Now starts
the queries-(1)could a portion of the motherboard be bad? I checked for
popped caps but all looked normal. (2) Keep in mind it works just fine
connected to dsl (not a question) and (3) Is there anything else I can
do to this machine before I use it for a boat anchor?
Thanx again
